BADGE were engaged under a Design and Construct contract to deliver the 31,000m² distribution facility on the 8-hectare greenfield site for ALDI Foods Pty Ltd. In addition, there was approximately 25,000m2 of concrete hardstand and car parking required - all to be delivered within a 12 month timeframe.

The distribution facility comprised of almost 18,000m² of ambient warehousing, over 8,500m² of cool and freezer rooms, various ancillary building and over 1500m² of fully fitted out office area.

The client’s design brief was extremely specific in terms of the performance requirements and included many exacting standards. ALDI’s benchmark was their existing facility in Dandenong, however the client was very interested in looking for ways to reduce the overall build cost through innovation and building methods. The challenge for us was to ensure the finished design replicated the level of finish and function of the Dandenong facility for a lower cost, while still maintaining the required performance – all within a very tight timeframe.

With the completion of the distribution centre being driven by the opening of the first of the stores rollout’s in early 2016, meeting programme was critical. BADGE produced an aggressive programme and met the scheduled completion date, thus enabling ALDI to start their stocking process to support the store rollout programme.
