Procured under a negotiated Design & Construct contract, the Gerard Lighting headquarters brief required BADGE to provide a highly energy efficient building to showcase their lighting products while marketing their sustainable company policies.

The finished product is a 3000m², four-storey structure with undercroft car park, two levels of corporate offices and a roof terrace entertainment area.

The BADGE team managed the design to ensure buildability and compliance with the client brief, including building and services design that would achieve 4.5 star certification under the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS measures environmental performance of a building in its operation). This rating will ultimately provide significant savings in energy costs to the client as well as add value to the building.

An integrated fit-out was suggested, allowing cost and time savings to the client by designing the high quality fit-out at the same time as the base building.

The structure is generally concrete columns with concrete slabs and a steel frame above the second floor. Key to achieving NABERS is the external glazing, which is a tinted double glazed system that wraps around nearly three sides of the building.

A full commercial kitchen and a secondary kitchen on the roof terrace provide an opportunity to entertain guests in an outdoor setting overlooking Victoria Park Racecourse.
