Originally built by BADGE in 2000, the original project involved the design and construction of the largest poultry processing facility in Australia.

  • Client Inghams Enterprises
  • Location Murrarie QLD
  • Value $12.5M
  • Contract Design & Construct

In 2007 the extension works required for the client was a result of increased production levels to keep in line with their growth and to match Australia’s increasing consumption of chicken products.

The works involved the demolition and re-construction of 2000m² of production floor within the existing building.

Major services upgrades were undertaken including waste treatment, recycled water systems, cleaning systems, power supplies and specific equipment service provisions.

One of the main project challenges was that the plant was an operational site in production six days per week. The project team needed to be particularly sensitive to the operations within the plant, with construction work having to be carried out around the client’s day-to-day works. This meant longer installation periods, working night shifts and maximising works carried out on weekends to prevent obstructions to the client’s business operations.

Diligence was required at all times to protect the operational areas from contamination. In addition, any shutdown to the client’s operations would be costly to both parties; therefore the project team put extra procedures in place to ensure no loss of production by unplanned power or water interruptions. All master planning, approvals and quality assurance aspects were managed by the BADGE Group including additional scope during the project.

The plant is now one of the largest and most efficient abattoirs operated by Inghams.
