Stage 1 of the project involved the demolition of the existing water treatment plant facility on the King St site, followed by Stage 2; the construction of the police station and District Headquarters, including a 35m radio tower.

This was an Indigenous project under the Queensland Government Training Policy, allowing us to utilise existing relationships through our NACP Projects Australia partnership to upskill, develop and provide opportunity to the local indigenous workforce.

During the works, the project team partnered with QPS and a local radio station to design and build a Fallen Officer Memorial at the site to recognise police officers who have died in the line of duty.

The project team developed sample designs for public vote via Facebook, and arranged for subcontractors and suppliers to donate materials and labour to construct the plinth and pillars. Support for the project was overwhelming, with in-kind contributions valued at approximately $20,000 and a further $30,000 raised from community donations and a charity dinner.

The police station was completed four months ahead of schedule. Due to high levels of interest from the community, an open day was held with tours and displays by various units including the dog squad and Polair.
