BADGE QLD recently completed the Padua College La Cordelle Extension project!
The extension of the existing La Cordelle Hall building at Padua College spans four levels, incorporating various structural, architectural, and mechanical upgrades. The project was delivered in a single stage and includes new construction, renovations, and specialised installations to enhance the building’s functionality and sustainability.
- Level 1 includes the creation of a new construction workshop, undercover workshops, and storage areas, along with landscaping. Infrastructure improvements involving in-ground sewer and stormwater drainage, new stormwater detention, rainwater tanks, and modifications to existing crib retaining walls. A new industrial dust extraction plant has also been installed.
- Level 2 features partial demolition of the existing structure to accommodate three new design studios and clean tech spaces, along with new covered external areas and landscaping. Electrical upgrades include a new building distribution board, solar inverter, and replacement of the main site distribution board with new consumer mains.
- Level 3 involves further demolition to extend the hall with new storage spaces and a data room. Mechanical and electrical upgrades include new air conditioning ductwork, expanded AV systems, updated lighting, and a fire detection system. Interior improvements feature timber sports flooring and ceiling modifications.
- Level 4 includes the construction of a plant deck for air conditioning equipment servicing Levels 2 and 3, new fume extraction systems, a PV solar panel array, and roof access. The hall’s exterior has been extended with new steel framing and cladding systems to support these additions.
Several unique features define this project, including external face brickwork using a blend of two different bricks with feature brick motifs, timber-framed windows and doors, and an extended timber sports floor in the hall. The project also includes remotely located water tanks on piled foundations, rock stabilisation works, and rock excavation where required. These elements will enhance the building’s structural integrity and visual appeal.
This project has a strong focus on functionality and sustainability which the team have executed exceptionally well, showcasing expertise and innovation.
