In one of the first instalments of the Queensland Government’s Cross River Rail Project, BADGE relocated the existing Brisbane Coach Terminal to the Roma Street Train Station precinct.

  • Sector Community & Civic
  • Client Queensland Department of Housing and Public Works
  • Location Brisbane QLD
  • Value $5M
  • Contract Construct Only

Works included a raised concrete platform, ticket office, toilet block, high-level roof structure covering an adjacent pick up/drop off area, and outdoor furniture installation.

The project posed a number of project management, programming and construction methodology challenges. Operating adjacent to the Roma Street Train Station, the BADGE team maintained a strong focus on public safety and traffic control – to accommodate and protect the thousands of pedestrians accessing the rail platform each day, as well as the road users passing through one section of the build.

As the project was on a critical path to allow the remainder of the Cross River Rail Project to proceed, the client then opted for an acceleration variation. BADGE drew on its national resources to double the project team (with two Site Managers and two Safety Officers) in support. The works were successfully delivered on time, and the client expressed gratitude for BADGE’s ability to draw on interstate personnel to meet constantly evolving timeframes.

The new temporary terminal is expected to be in use for 5 – 10 years and minimise the impact on coach services during the construction of the future Cross River Rail Station at Roma Street.
