Tell us about what inspired you to join the construction industry.

I always had a passion for making things even from an early age. It started with Lego or Meccano and through school this matured to woodwork and metalwork. When it came time to think about a career I was drawn to a trade and almost began an apprenticeship as a joiner before I realised there was potentially a better-suited role for me working with a builder and being part of the whole process.

What has been your favourite project that you’ve worked on and why?

As a project manager, I enjoyed working with whole teams (including clients, superintendents, consultants and so on) who always considered ‘best for project outcomes’ rather than best individual outcomes, this was most evident on a school project we completed at Peter Moyes in 2009.

As a procurement manager, the most significant project for many reasons would be a current project, Americold Spearwood Expansion. The design and construction phase of this project was very involved given its significance, operational environment and end-user requirements. I’m very proud of how our team handled the challenge and continue to build on this relationship with Americold on-site at the moment.

Tell us a story of how your work positively impacted the community.

As a builder, we construct assets that provide a service to the community. Whether this be a Hospital, School, Shopping Centre, Defence Capability or so on we are directly impacting positively on the community.

Trust takes a long time to gain but can be broken in seconds. This industry is built around relationships some of which you may not see the benefit of for a long time, these relationships however they are just as important as the ones required today. Also, take time to listen to others, this is how we learn.
