Tell us about what inspired you to join the construction industry.

Having been born and bred in the smallish country town of Bathurst in the centre tablelands of NSW and with our Father being a builder, my pathway and journey to becoming a builder was somewhat cast for me from a young age. Being the youngest of the family of 4 and then naturally the last one at home, my school holidays were full of days spent with Dad at work. With my tenth birthday present being a hammer and nail bag I was well on the way to my current role in the industry. From learning the ins and outs of the carpentry trade, being fully fledged by the age of 20 and having completed my builder’s licence course through TAFE by 21, my career was set.

Although my introduction to the industry was via family involvement, I genuinely believe it is a great industry to be part of with nearly endless opportunities.

What has been your favourite project that you’ve worked on and why?

2015 Resthaven Aged Care Head Office SA . The Project was a multi-storey building on a challenging block of land, off of a main DIT road (Greenhill road) with a basement car park and externally high-level power lines on 2 sides of the building. The project was of great importance to the client and was a huge milestone for their business.

While being a very impressive commercial office building which has some great high-end finishes and with the building methodology being restricted by access, all of these challenges made for great satisfaction when completing the project 3 months ahead of program with minimum defects and a very happy client.

Tell us a story of how your work positively impacted the community.

Given the benefits gained by the end users being able to work more efficiently in their daily activities and outputs, contributed to by having new/updated facilities which have been successfully completed and handed over as a project completed by BADGE provides huge benefits to the greater community in more ways then visible. And not just for the above-mentioned project.

Another of the more recent projects that I/we have completed was a 2 stage shopping centre development which included 54 speciality shops and 300 plus car park spaces, bringing greater access and opportunity to the local community in an iconic suburb of Port Adelaide making the whole shopping experience and opportunity of a convenient one-stop shopping complex.
